Hails and Horns BMA! Today I want to do a short review for the new EP from Revenge Prevails. This new one is titled Jaws of Janus!

For those not familiar, Revenge Prevails is. Blackened Death Metal band out of Uddevalla Sweeden. Typically, Revenge Prevails plays an extremely aggressive style of Black/Death with some melodic offerings to add their own unique flavor. However, they did change things up a little bit for this new EP.

What you get with Jaws of Janus is som
e well written and performed Black Metal tracks sprinkled with the typical Death Metal elements you would expect from the band, but woth a twist. This one is a vessel for some experimental and progressive styles to be added in as well.

Track 1: MAW - gives us a solid mix of all elements listed above. Opening with a ominous intro of clean guitars and near demonic sounding chanting and chattering as the main cleaner melody grows into a more aggressive tone, until we are hit with a galloping thrash-like riff. From. There you get a solid mix of good black metal guitars with solid as hell vocals from Josef, weaving between a more Black Metal howl and a Death Metal growl. The major changes start to blend in through and into the closing moments with near angelic melody and the clean vocals of Bassist Isabella. Her vocals mixed with this more progressive, melodic style blended together very well and allowed the band to show some little experimentation.
This change in style would be present through the remaining 2 tracks Dungeon and Sculptor. So if you enjoy good Black/Death but maybe want to retry something a little different, I would go check this Release out. Just as well, if you preference more traditional Black/Death then I would recommend their previous discography as well. Hails and Horns!
