"Queer" is a fantastic movie. The experience stirred a whirlwind of emotions within me, prompting deep reflection on my thoughts and memories. It honestly made me quite sad because I could see a lot of myself inside of the main character Lee—chasing someone who doesn’t want you the same way you want them, relying on drugs and substances to escape your sad reality, and trying to find a way to have a deeper connection with someone who isn’t on the same page as you. I feel like this is the fate of so many gay men, and I hate that for our community. This is why putting an emphasis on self love/importance is so important because without it it’s very easy to find yourself in these types of situations. A lot of the original book and to some extent the movie was based on the authors own life events. This movie really encouraged me to reflect on my goals, values and worth. I wondered if I was going to end up like Lee or not and what I could do to stop myself from going down that route. 10/10 movie; I’m definitely going to rewatch and I recommend for others to watch as well, you might have to watch it a few times to get certain parts.

[Side note] Ever since I first saw Drew Starkey in the captivating film, I’ve been obsessed with him. His charismatic presence and undeniable charm left a lasting impression on me. One of my favorite artists, Omar Apollo, made a short cameo in the movie as well, and he looked so good. The actors really made this film worth watching, especially Daniel Craig who acted his ass off for this role.
