This novel is magnificent, powerful novel of a quiet southern town rocked by young girl’s accusation of criminal assault.

Review

The story is revolves around a small southern town named Maycomb County . Jean Louise Finch aka Scout is the protangonist and the story proceeds in her narration . The author takes us through the lives of widower attorney at law , Mr . Atticus Finch and his kids Jem and Scout.

The novel takes the reader to his childhood memories. Scout is a tomboyish girl who loves to fight. As they are the only kids in the neighbor hood ,any mischief done are always on them .

The town is steeped in racial and other prejudices. Atticus is a lawyer while most of the neighborhood is made of farmers. All is well till Atticus takes up a case to defend an innocent, black man –Tom Robinson, who has been falsely accused of raping a white girl. Much to the children’s surprise and shock, they along with their father, are forced to face sudden hostility from their neighbors and friends as their father solely tries to defend a black man.The story proceeds with events that occurred by the deed of Atticus taking up the case of Tom.

About The Author

Harper Lee is well known author who rose to glory after the release of to kill the mockingbird. Soon after the release the book received the Pulitzer Prize in 1960. She ed away in 2016.

My opinion

This book showers light into the inequality and discrimination that existed in the society against the colored people. Even the court is not free from this social evil . I would highly recommend this book to those who I like suspense . The climax of this so unpredictable and the mystery behind Boo Radley.

RANDOM FACT

A film was released on 2001 based on this book starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch , produced by Alan Pakula and directed by Robert Mulligan.
