I’m currently in the process of applying to college (incredibly late but oh well), but I’m having a mega internal crisis over what name to put on the form and what gender to put down. I haven’t yet legally changed my name etc, but I want to start college under my preferred name and gender.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I put my birth name and my preferred name? Should I email them and explain the situation?
(I’m in the UK, so things that work elsewhere may not apply here)

If it doesn’t ask for preferred name, you have to put your legal name or it could cause a lot of problems. Afterwards, when you go in for your schedule or orientation, talk to the person in the registrar office. I got a form asking what my name currently was and what I wanted it to be changed to.
Thanks!
I'm from US so it might be different but I'm guessing not- I had to put my legal name/gender on application but they had an option at my school to enter a preferred name on the online portal. Then I also went to the school itself and explained to the person who ed me for classes (I'm drawing a blank on the title for these people sorry lol) about my situation, name and pronouns and they made it so the name I go by was on the paperwork for the professors and let them know my situation
Ah right, thanks!
I think it would probably be pretty much the same here
