Hello VMA!!
I hope your all having a great day/night today we will be talking about dose a service dog have to be on a leash
First what is a service dog?
An assistance dog, known as a service dog in the United States, is a dog trained to aid or assist an individual with a disability
Now the ADA states that a dog is required to wear the leash UNLESS the leash gets in the way of the task
For Example - I have two task that the leash gets in the way crowed control , and fainting response. For crowed control my dog must walk around me to give me space from the crowed with a leash can get tangled very easily. And for fainting alert my dog will (go get help) and that can be difficult if he’s attached to the leash in this case as long as he is trained to be off leash and behaves he wouldn’t be required to wear a leash
