as someone who is going through the fact of being transgender in high school, i thought i would give a few tips on coming out in high school while still making yourself feel safe and secure!
1. don’t feel like you have to come out to everyone at once! telling your teachers in private is the best way to put things into motion without getting the attention of everyone. writing notes or emails to your teachers to tell them what’s going on is an easy way to let them know without having to say words.
2. if your school has a club or a safe space during school hours or after, i would recommend attending it! its more than likely that you’ll meet people in there going through the same issues that you are currently. you can help each other out and then you’ll realize that you aren’t alone. [[:
3. tell your closest friends first. people that you feel you can trust with this info and will you through it. you also don’t have to do this during the school year if it makes you uncomfortable, you can start telling people during breaks so you don’t have to see them right away!
4. don’t feel like you have to use the word “trans”. you can simply tell your teachers that you would prefer to go by a different name than what’s listed in the role call. most of your teachers probably won’t care and will just call you by the name you ask.
5. talk to your counselors!! if you’re like me, i get super nervous talking to my counselor and i get scared of ranting to her but if you truly feel scared and that you need someone to talk to, that’s where you can go! don’t fear people who are there to help you and listen!
coming out at school is hard and it’s one of those things you’ll probably dread doing the most! just know that you’re not alone and people all around the world are going through this! there’s many different options for coming out and some are easier than others. if you’re planning on coming out during school, i hope these tips help you and feel a little bit more comfortable with letting everyone know who you are!

Really good tips, and I actually started talking to my student coach today about coming out, so she kinda made it her plan to help me.
I’m so happy but scared, because I just told my friend yesterday, that I wanted her to call me another name than my birth name, so she helped me find some names to try out 🙂
